Each year, three full weeks before school starts, the band will hold its annual band camp or “everydays”. The camp starts with only Colorguard and Percussion members each with one full week of rehearsal (Check enclosed schedule for hours). The next two weeks before school are for all band, percussion, and colorguard members.
During band camp, the members will learn fundamentals of marching, playing while moving, and our field production. This event requires much effort on all of our parts, and attendance is MANDATORY. At no time will a member be excused from any part of band camp for a vacation, summer camp, job, doctor’s appointments, etc. You are being given the schedule now so that you may prepare well in advance. Extreme cases should be brought to the attention of the directors. As always, school-affiliated issues should be brought to the attention of the directors. You must have the approval of the directors before missing any part of band camp.
- Bring a personal water cooler, or thermos to keep ice water in. You will be given short water breaks and will not have time to run to a water fountain.
- Wear PLENTY of sunscreen or sun block. The South Carolina summers are known for harsh heat and damaging sun. Please protect yourself accordingly.
- Wear a baseball cap or something to that effect. The sun will sometimes be in your eyes and it is imperative that you can see where you are going! A hat also helps you to bare the heat.
- Bring your music, a pencil, your coordinate sheet and instrument everyday. There will be mornings where we march and play – so every time you bring your self, bring your materials.
- Before you arrive, eat a good breakfast – but avoid milk at all costs! Milk and heat do not mix and often cause a lower heat tolerance and upset stomach.
- You will be given two hours to eat lunch and relax. Do not spend this time in the sunlight or playing outside. Get some rest, eat lunch and relax. The afternoon session will require just as much effort, participation and attention.
- Respect and listen to your band officers, staff and directors. They have all been here before and know what it takes to make it through.
- Never hesitate to ask a question. If you don’t understand, speak up! Chances are someone else has the same question…
- ALWAYS have a good attitude. NEVER become “too hot to care”. ALWAYS do your best to become the best addition of our band program. Only with effort from individuals will we be able to succeed!
